Politecnico di Milano
Client
Brave Work Space Tool is a project developed for a research group at the Politecnico di Milano, within the Department of Architecture, Built Environment and Construction Engineering. Collaborating with an institution of excellence like the Politecnico was highly stimulating and allowed us to contribute to the development of a useful and innovative tool for workplace design.
Challenge
The main challenge was to design and develop a tool capable of translating key parameters related to workspaces — such as available surface area, number of workers, and type of activities performed — into a layout consistent with current workplace safety regulations. The software had to automatically calculate and propose a rational distribution of the environments, determining, for instance, the minimum required areas for individual workstations, common areas, corridors, and circulation spaces. Additionally, it was necessary to differentiate user levels, distinguishing between those who make simple design assumptions, those who actually construct spaces, and those who manage associated users and companies. A modular, flexible system that is accessible to professionals with different skill sets, making the tool genuinely useful in both academic and professional contexts.
Solution
The work began with a detailed analysis of the client’s needs and the definition of the software’s functional requirements. We structured a workflow that allowed us to develop both the visual and the logical components of the project simultaneously: in Figma we designed the user interface, dividing the various features into sections, while at the same time we mapped all the logic and calculations the algorithm would have to perform. This dual-path approach ensured consistency between design and functionality. For development we chose Laravel and Inertia, combining stability and flexibility. The result is a clear, structured, and scalable web application. Creating the Brave Work Space Tool for an institution like the Politecnico di Milano was a challenging and stimulating project, and also a perfect opportunity to put our technical and design skills into practice in a highly collaborative environment. We are very proud of the final result.
